Atalanta Kickstart Talks for Forgotten Man Utd Ace

It’s been a proactive summer for Atalanta thus far, but the Italians have shown no signs of dropping their lofty ambitions. As per the Manchester Evening News, Gian Piero Gasperini’s men have opened talks with Manchester United over Mason Greenwood’s loan switch to Bergamo.

Sead Kolasinac and Mitchel Bakker joined Atalanta in the early summer days. But it’s time to reinforce other departments, with Greenwood emerging as a real possibility for La Dea. During ongoing discussions with Man Utd over Rasmus Hojlund’s potential move to Old Trafford, the Italians have asked for information about Greenwood.

Since the charges of attempted rape, controlling and coercive behavior, and assault first hit the headlines in January 2022, the 21-year-old forward has been frozen out of the Red Devils squad. It’s been over a year since he last played a professional match, and he won’t be returning to Erik ten Hag’s team anytime soon.

Despite seeing the charges dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service in February, Greenwood has yet to gain the club’s permission to reunited with the group. While conducting an internal investigation into the Englishman, the Premier League heavyweights are ready to ship him out on loan overseas to buy more time before making a final decision.

Roma boss Jose Mourinho has emerged as an interested party in Greenwood’s situation. However, Atalanta could offer the troubled youngster a career lifeline. Mourinho is no longer keen on reuniting with his former Man Utd pupil, opening the door for La Dea to swoop in and steal him away.
