Atalanta Owner Adamant on Future of Defensive Starlet

Giorgio Scalvini is on the radar of several big clubs, but Atalanta president Antonio Percassi wants to keep ahold of him in January and possibly in the future. He talked to L’Eco Di Bergamo (via Sportitalia).

“I can guarantee that he will not transfer. He’s the symbol of the growth of our youth products. Matteo Ruggeri won’t move either. We want to assess his potential, and the coach is the right person to do that. There’s no need to go into detail about the transfer market right now, as it will last until January 31st.”

“Reality is fluid and complicated. Things can change very quickly and multiple times too. We don’t want to make prognostications or announcements. We have clear ideas, but it’s not only up to us. Our advantage is that we already have a competitive group. When the time will come to do some deals, we’ll see.”

Gian Piero Gasperini has looked restless, but Percassi gives the Atalanta boss carte blanche.

“I wish he fielded the best possible XI all the time, but I would never interfere. He can choose in complete autonomy, as it has always been the case. He sees the squad every day. Nobody will impose anything onto him. I’ve never had any doubt about the value of the roster. We are competitive and, as a matter of fact, we are vying for a European berth. It’s very well-assorted too. We always measured up with the opponents despite some absences.”

The owner isn’t worried about the investigation on their deals with Juventus.

“We are very serene, and we are confident the truth will emerge.”
