Bastoni Backs Inzaghi, Downplays Barcelona Controversy

Alessandro Bastoni offered his support to Simone Inzaghi following the win over Barcelona and explained a social media post that irked the Catalan press in an interview with SportMediaset.

“We are always with our coach. He needs some help too. I think he was happy to see that the players fought for him. The last victory was for him because there were rumors suggesting that not everybody was rowing in the same direction in the locker room. However, that has never been the case. We are a healthy group and we fight for each other. We knew something had to change, we talked it out and realized it was important to be there for one another.”

After the Champions League clash, Bastoni published a pic of a tackle on Gavi on Instagram, which some in Spain misinterpreted.

“It wasn’t an attack against him, nor versus Barcelona.”

The defender looked back at his outburst after an early substitution in the Udinese match. Inzaghi took him out the first half following a yellow card.

“It was a strong reaction due to what wasn’t working on the pitch. I was frustrated with myself.”

Finally, Bastoni said his piece Milan Skriniar and the insistent courtship by PSG.

“He has to evaluate carefully. He’s very comfortable here and knows that the whole Inter world holds him in high regard. It’s up to him to make the decision.”

The young center-back ended up on the rumor mill early last summer, but he quickly silenced the buzz by re-committing to the Nerazzurri.
