New Fiorentina signing Lucas Beltran has revealed that he spoke to Roma star Paulo Dybala before saying yes to the Viola for the summer transfer. The Giallorossi made a shock attempt to lure Beltran recently – a move which was quickly turned away by the Millionaires and the player himself.
Speaking to TyC Sport (via ViolaNews) before embarking on the long flight across the Atlantic, the 22-year-old center-forward disclosed his feelings and the background behind his move.
“I will go to Fiorentina, they have always been interested and the sporting project they have is very impressive. I spoke to Dybala, he recommended Roma, but the transfer did not materialize.
Beltran, who possesses an Italian passport, has the chance to star for Roberto Mancini’s Azzurri. However, his words indicate he will stick to the Albiceleste.
“Argentina or Italy? I let things happen as I have done so far. The Argentina national team has something special.”
He also promised to return back to River Plate down his career.
“River will always be my home. Here I made my dream come true, I’m sure I’ll come back in the future. I’m still trying to digest this elimination in the Copa Libertadores with River, I didn’t expect it.”
