Bonucci Offered Premier League Chance in Career Twilight

Juventus icon Leonardo Bonucci is likely to be made redundant following new sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli taking the reins of transfer operations at the club. He has already revealed his intention to retire.

Several players are expected to leave the club this month ahead of the new season and the veteran defender is reportedly a part of the departure list.

According to Calciomercato, 36-year-old Bonucci is expected to leave the Bianconeri, mainly due to his high salary in the region of €6.5M net per season. Despite his contract expiring at the end of the next season, the notion of a severance pay has not been taken into consideration.

The idea of separating with Bonucci has been with the club’s plans for quite some time now, well before the arrival of Giuntoli. His representatives have been indicated with a potential transfer, with moves to either Saudi Arabia or MLS being hypothesized. However, the prospect of one final adventure in the Premier League has not been ruled out.

Latest reports indicate that a meeting has been held with Newcastle United, with a move to the Magpies perhaps the most viable option for Bonucci to continue playing regularly at the highest level, for at least the next couple of years.
