Borussia Dortmund Set to Beat Roma in Race for Sabitzer

Roma targeted Marcel Sabitzer earlier in the summer, but he’s on the brink of joining Borussia Dortmund. The Giallorossi tried to onboard him on an initial loan, but Bayern Munich rebuffed them, SportMediaset informs.

The Bavarians wanted to sell the Austrian international outright after a temporary spell at Manchester United. They have found a buyer pretty quickly. Their Bundesliga rivals are set to spend €16M plus add-ons for the midfielder.

According to Sky Sport Deutschland (via Calciomercato), Sabitzer might not board the flight to Japan as the transfer to Borussia Dortmund is imminent, while Roma will have to pivot toward different candidates. The Giallorossi have scheduled new talks with PSG for Renato Sanches, even though such a pursuit is equally difficult. The Portuguese would be part of Luis Enrique’s plan if he stayed, Fabrizio Romano reports.

The Giallorossi have added Houssem Aouar in the role this summer and kept ahold of Nemanja Matic, on top of having Lorenzo Pellegrini, Bryan Cristante, and Edoardo Bove. They are looking to add a physical box-to-box

Our Take on Roma, Sabitzer, and Borussia Dortmund

The capital side has a lot of ambition considering their low budget. They’ll lose the race in this case, but director Tiago Pinto shouldn’t be counted out when it comes to pulling off coups for cheap.
