Italian veteran manager Fabio Capello has given his opinion as to why Kalidou Koulibaly has floundered in his initial days at the Stamford Bridge. The ex-Napoli stopper shifted clubs after a summer saga filled with speculation that linked him to a host of other clubs, including Barcelona and Juventus. He chose Chelsea in the end.
Despite scoring a crucial goal against Tottenham Hotspur on the second matchday of the new Premier League season, the Senegal ace has found himself facing criticism time and again – mainly due to his drop in form since receiving the dreaded red against Leeds United in the following round.
Speaking to Sky Calcio Club (via Tuttomercatoweb), Capello dished on the center-back’s early woes.
“I would like to talk about the difficulties of Koulibaly at Chelsea. In Naples, he was doing everything by himself. His problems now depend on the speed with which they play in England. It’s the same pace used by Udinese to give Roma fits. It’s something that must make us Italians reflect.”
Koulibaly has five appearances in the Chelsea blue so far since his high-profile move from the Partenopei.
