Casale Backs Lazio to Get Back in Shape After Atalanta Victory

Maurizio Sarri had once quoted that playing Atalanta is like going to the dentist, and similarly so, his side only just scraped past to register a third win of the season at the Olimpico. Matias Vecino’s late winner gifted Lazio all three points against the Bergamo natives, and defender Nicolò Casale believes the Biancocelesti have their season back on track.

Casale spoke to the press after the game in the mixed zone and dished on how Lazio’s season has panned out so far.

“There were many conversations between us, in the dressing room and with the staff. We have resolved this problem, I think that unconsciously, looking at last season, perhaps there was a bit of satisfaction. Fortunately, we understood it immediately and tried to straighten things out as soon as possible. Then certainly the draw at home with Atletico gave us a further boost, and the victory in Glasgow even more so. We need to continue working keeping our heads down, and I think we showed it today too.” (via LaLazioSiamoNoi)

Having forced Charles De Ketelaere to score an own goal in the opening minutes, Casale thinks Lazio started the strongest of all the matchdays this time around.

“I believe that today was one of the matches in which we started the strongest, I had the opportunity to close out the match, and therefore we gave a strong signal to Atalanta. The thing that I regret most is that we conceded the second goal in a simple way. I saw them in clear difficulty. Then they tied the match in another situation in which doing a little more would have been enough. We were more decisive in those cases last year. We were good and conceded little. Then they gave us space, and we got off to a good start.”

Atalanta emerged from a goal down twice in the encounter before Uruguayan Vecino saved the day for Lazio with a close-range volley. However, Maurizio Sarri’s Biancocelesti still linger in the bottom half of the table with ten points from their first eight games. Meanwhile, La Dea failed to enter the top five with the loss.
