Predictions

Juventus vs Lazio

Not long ago, Juventus seemed poised to challenge Inter for the Serie A title until the final weekend. However, the team’s downfall over the past two months has opened a 17-point gap between the sides, crashing Bianconeri out of the Scudetto frame.

Lifting the Coppa Italia trophy is Juventus’ only chance to avoid another trophyless campaign. Massimiliano Allegri’s men are keen to give the Turin faithful something to cheer about in these troubling times. The record-time Coppa Italia winners are potentially three games away from conquering the tournament for the 15th time.

They last won the competition in 2020/21. But with Inter out of that way, they’re the frontrunners to reclaim Coppa Italia glory this term. Though Lazio will be desperate to stop Juventus in their tracks, their recent showings paint a bleak picture.

It’s been five years since Maurizio Sarri’s troops last climbed to the podium. They’ll be heavily motivated to replicate that success this season after bundling out of the Supercoppa Italiana and the Champions League. That’s not to mention their disastrous Serie A campaign.

However, Juventus should have a clear upper hand in this tie as we back them for progression.

Prediction: Juventus to reach the final

Fiorentina vs Atalanta

Last season’s beaten Coppa Italia finalists, Fiorentina, are hellbent on doing one better this year and complete their pursuit of their first Coppa Italia success since 2000/01. Indeed, 2022/23 was a season of disappointment for Vincenzo Italiano’s lads as they lost the Europa Conference League final to West Ham.

Perhaps they’ll atone for those failures this time. Already well off the Serie A top-four pace, La Viola can still avoid a trophyless campaign, given they’re on the brink of reaching the Conference League quarter-finals. Fiorentina will probably adjust their domestic targets depending on their continental run.

Likewise, Atalanta’s Europa League season is still alive after a 1-1 draw against Sporting CP in the first leg of their Europa League last-16 tie. But things don’t look well in Serie A, where they trail fourth-placed Bologna by four points. Regardless of their results in other competitions, Gian Piero Gasperini’s men will not take their eyes off the Coppa Italia crown.

That’s the title they last won in 1962/63. But after losing their last two Coppa Italia ties against Fiorentina, they’ll know better than to take anything for granted. Despite that underwhelming record, we still believe Atalanta will come out on top.

Prediction: Atalanta to reach the final
