Di Maria Reportedly Open to Prolonging Juventus Stay

Angel Di Maria was hellbent on signing just a one-year contract with Juventus last summer to keep his options open, eyeing a return to Rosario Central. The Bianconeri eventually accepted, even though they would have preferred a longer deal. Despite that, it’s not so sure the Argentine will indeed leave Turin at the end of the season, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs.

He didn’t want to commit for multiple campaigns because he didn’t know how his family would settle in. Such concern quickly vanished. The winger confirmed it in a recent interview where he silenced the buzz about a rumored January exit.

Juventus, and especially Massimiliano Allegri, would be more than happy to keep Di Maria. He’s one of the few players with experience at the highest levels and an exemplary professional. While he dealt with multiple injuries in the first part of the season, he has stayed healthy and fared well afterward.

In addition, if El Fideo stayed put, the Bianconeri would retroactively benefit from fiscal savings on his wages. They come into effect only for multi-year contracts. On the other hand, the marriage would have way better chances to continue if the Old Lady somehow qualified for a European competition despite the point deduction.

Our Take on Juventus and Di Maria

He’s been great since the club got his undivided attention, and he was no longer saving himself for Argentina. While it wouldn’t hurt to keep him, preferably with a lower salary and in a reduced role, so it’s not so damaging when he’s out, there’s too much uncertainty about the future of the Bianconeri. These matters will be resolved only in a few more months.
