Giroud Not Necessarily Staying at Milan Next Summer

The MLS has set sights on Olivier Giroud ahead of a possible transfer next summer, even though Milan wish he’d re-up his expiring contract. The Frenchman isn’t in a rush to decide his future. His main goal is doing the best he can this season to get to Euro 2024 in good shape, Fabrizio Romano informs (via SOSFanta).

A few American franchises have started poking around to see whether they could lure him. Despite some reports, the veteran isn’t a lock to stay at Milan. At this stage, there haven’t been substantial talks to discuss his extension.

Milan are unlikely to make a splash up front in January and plot to finish the campaign with Giroud and Luka Jovic. They’ll also test Noah Okafor as a no.9. They are earmarking a few talents for the future. Whether the World Cup champion stays or not will determine how many men they’ll need to sign and if they’ll confirm the ex-Fiorentina center-forward.

The recent chatter suggested the Rossoneri wanted to retain the 37-year-old by offering him just a seasonal contract, while he might prefer a longer one.

Our Take on Milan and Giroud

This timetable makes more sense, as, if the split happens, it’ll be amicable and for reasons that aren’t exclusively technical or financial. The Rossoneri seemed to be leaning toward keeping him as a backup, but it’s far from certain he’d agree with that.
