Fiorentina defender Igor is reportedly on the verge of leaving Serie A for Premier League outfit Brighton & Hove Albion. Fabrizio Romano’s latest update states the Seagulls have found common ground with La Viola over the Brazilian’s switch to East Sussex.
Brighton will pour €17m plus €3m in add-ons into the Italians’ coffers to bring Igor to the Amex Stadium. The 25-year-old center-back will soon fly to England to undergo a medical before putting pen to paper on a multi-year contract. His departure from Fiorentina is now only a matter of formality.
After three years at Artemio Franchi, Igor prepares to embark on a new chapter at Brighton. The ex-SPAL man has bid farewell to the Fiorentina faithful amid his imminent exit.
“I’ll miss Florence and Fiorentina. This club is special. Thanks to all Fiorentina fans,” Igor said, as relayed by Romano.
Alongside Nikola Milenkovic and Lucas Martinez Quarta, he was one of Vincenzo Italiano’s most trusted defenders last season. But since Fiorentina will earn a hefty compensation fee from his sale, finding a replacement shouldn’t be a problem.
Unfortunately, Igor may not be the only first-team star to leave Florence this summer. Sofyan Amrabat seems closer to moving away than staying, with numerous elite European clubs vying for his signature. Manchester United are in pole position to sign the Moroccan midfielder.
Arthur Melo’s expected arrival from Juventus on a season-long loan with an option to buy will only increase the likelihood of Amrabat’s departure for a more prominent destination.
