Inter in Advanced Talks to Prolong Contract of Veteran

Henrikh Mkhitaryan dominated in the Derby, scoring twice and dishing an assist, and has held on the starting job in the early going despite their new pieces in the midfield, primarily Davide Frattesi. He’s a trusted lieutenant of Simone Inzaghi and a true coach on the pitch thanks to his savviness.

His contract is up at the end of the season. However, there’s little doubt he’ll end up extending it. Both parties are on the same page. Inter and his agent only have to find the right formula and an understanding on his salary, TuttoSport informs (via FootballNews24).

The signature is seen as just a matter of time. Mkhitaryan will ink either a two-year contract, as Matteo Darmian did in the last few months, or a seasonal one with an option. He currently earns €3.8M and might maintain the same salary.

The Armenian star joined the Nerazzurri on a Bosman move two summers ago. He has appeared 53 times so far, scoring 7 goals and providing 3 assists. He started basically every game last season.

Our Take on Inter and Mkhitaryan

He’s aging like fine wine, and, while he’s no slouch, he doesn’t exactly rely on his athleticism to do damage. There’s no reason he can’t keep going strong for a couple more seasons. The negotiation shouldn’t be particularly arduous.
