Inter Maintain Interest in Athletico Paranaense Goalie

Inter went after Bento during their goalkeeping search last summer before giving up the chase because the talks had gotten too complicated. They remain interested in the Brazilian specialist, who might be their choice for the future at the position.

According to Corriere dello Sport (via Fantacalcio), the negotiation was well underway before Athletico Paranaense raised their demands and de facto took him off the market. The Nerazzurri wanted to pair him up with Yann Sommer initially. Afterward, they turned to Emil Audero for backup duties, signing him on loan with an option to buy from Sampdoria.

Inter believe Bento could be a proper heir to André Onana considering also his technique. He shares some traits with one of their past greats, Julio Cesar. They’ll try again in the future, perhaps in January already, attempting to seal his summer arrival early.

However, the shot-stopper is under contract till 2026 with a €60M release clause. Therefore, his team will continue negotiating from a position of strength. The 24-year-old has logged 50 appearances this year, conceding 48 goals and keeping 20 clean sheets.

Our Take on Inter and Bento

Sommer has been almost impeccable so far, but he’s 34, so they’ll have to address the position again relatively soon. The Brazilian goalie is too established and expensive to come in as a substitute.
