Inter Prepare Defensive Overhaul Involving De Vrij and Bremer

Inter are heading towards a overhaul at the back at end of the season, as Dutchman and defensive mainstay Stefan De Vrij looks likely to leave the Nerazzurri after a season filled with reports and rumors.

A new report by Corriere dello Sport (via FCInterNews) only strengthens the indication that Inter will part ways with De Vrij in order to bring in another long-term target. Torino stopper Gleison Bremer has long been linked with a move to Giuseppe Meazza, but he is not short of suitors in the transfer market.

De Vrij currently plays as an anchor between Alessandro Bastoni and Milan Skriniar, in the middle of a back three. Signing Bremer would mean Skriniar moving in the center, with the Brazilian plying his trade on the right.

That is the idea so far and Inter have even reached a ‘general agreement’ with Bremer in recent weeks. However, Torino expect Inter to shell more than the 25-year-old Brazilian’s transfermarkt value of €30m. Club chief Urbano Cairo considers Bremer his most valuable player, and would not fail to find top clubs interested in him, including Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.

The departure of De Vrij is expected to bring in at least half of what Torino prefer in their coffers. Moreover, Inter prefer to sell the Dutchman and add to the club’s capital, rather than see him leave for free at the end of next season.

De Vrij arrived in Milan on a free transfer in 2018 – a steal buy Inter will pat themselves on the back for. The Feyenoord youth product has 155 appearances for the Nerazzurri so far.
