Inter Set to Give Ex-Star New Role at the Club

Samir Handanovic called time on his 11-year stint at Inter in the summer upon the expiry of his contract at Giuseppe Meazza. According to Calciomercato, the former Slovenian goalkeeper is on the verge of taking a new role at the club now that he has retired.
Handanovic hung up his gloves ahead of the 2023/24 campaign. However, he hasn’t left the club despite being linked with a short-term move to Lazio. The 39-year-old has been working as a goalkeeping scout these past few months. Inter plan to reward their loyal servant with a more prominent role.
Currently tasked with scouring the continent for the most exciting goalkeeping talents, Handanovic eyes up a coaching job at Inter. Whether as a goalkeeping coach or a manager, the ex-Slovenia international seems destined to join the club’s hierarchy once he undergoes all necessary preparations.
Indeed, Handanovic is about to travel across Europe to master his coaching skills and learn a new trade. While doing so, he’ll remain a goalkeeping scout at Inter. It’s uncertain how long it will take to perfect this new craft and get a license, but once it’s done, he will assume coaching reins at Under-15 or Under-16 level.
There was a chance for Handanovic to sign a short-term extension at Inter in the summer. But tired of playing second fiddle, the experienced stopper decided it was best to drop the curtain on his illustrious career in Serie A. Now it’s time for something new.
