Inter Stalwart Could Stay at the Club for Another Season

Inter captain Samir Handanovic could stay at the club for another season as their backup goalkeeper.

According to Sports Mediaset, a meeting will be held between the Nerazzurri officials and the Slovenian’s agent for a new contract. With Inter aiming to sign Andre Onana, Handanovic would have to spend the 2022-23 season as the Cameroonian’s deputy. He would also see a reduction in his salary.

Handanovic, who led Inter to the Scudetto last season, has been a key figure at the club since joining them from Udinese in 2012. So far, the 37-year-old has made 405 appearances across all competitions for the Nerazzurri.

This season, the former Slovenia international has played in all of Inter’s 16 matches so far, keeping four clean sheets.

With Handanovic approaching his late 30s, the Nerazzurri will need a change soon enough but having him as part of the squad next season would be useful for them from a leadership perspective.
