Inter reportedly remain open to the idea of launching a late January assault on Sassuolo midfielder Davide Frattesi but only under certain conditions. Per Tuttosport (via SempreInter), the Nerazzurri could make a bid to sign the 22-year-old if Stefano Sensi or Matias Vecino depart the Giuseppe Meazza this winter.
Both players have tumbled down the pecking order this season, with Inter ready to allow them to leave Lombardy in the final days of the January transfer window. A series of injury setbacks have seen Sensi become a fringe figure at Meazza, while Vecino has never convinced Simone Inzaghi to play him regularly.
While the former remains hopeful of sealing a six-month switch to Sampdoria for regular first-team football, the latter is in the final six months of his contract at the club. The Uruguayan could be allowed to cut short his stint at Inter prematurely should the satisfying offer come along.
Time is ticking for the reigning Serie A holders to offload their out-of-favour stars. However, if any of them ends up leaving Inter in the remainder of January, Inzaghi’s side could lodge a bid to land Frattesi.
After a few loan spells in Serie B, the highly-rated midfielder has established himself as a permanent first-team fixture at the Mapei Stadium this season. Widely considered one of the most exciting prospects in Italy, Frattesi ticks all the boxes for a type of player Inter are looking to recruit.
Even Inter CEO Beppe Marotta has recently admitted the Nerazzurri are monitoring the Italian’s development at Sassuolo. “We’re following both Scamacca and Frattesi – they’re huge talents, it’s normal,” he said, as relayed by Fabrizio Romano.
Frattesi has gone from strength to strength this season, and it’s hard to make a case for Sassuolo to keep hold of him beyond the summer. However, the Neroverdi are likely to make a substantial profit on the potential departure of their prized possession. They have reportedly pinned a €25m price tag on their asset’s head.
