Inzaghi Reveals Regret Over Liverpool Home Leg Defeat: “We Weren’t Inferior”

from the Nerazzurri’s 2nd leg performance and expressed regrets over how they tackled the home leg.

Speaking to Sport Mediaset (via FCInterNews) after the match, Inzaghi commented that Inter were ‘not inferior’ to Liverpool over two legs.

“We had a great game against a very strong opponent. The boys did very well, but there is regret over the first leg. Here we won 1-0, Liverpool seemed to have suffered the blow then there was Sanchez’s red,” he said.

Further, he added how the victory seems meaningless in the bigger picture after Liverpool march on with their first leg exploits.

He commented: “The team was in the game. We controlled the match well, suffering only from dead balls. The regret remains, we take victory away from Anfield which is nice but it was useless for qualification.”

Finally, he was quizzed whether this is a positive step towards doing well in Europe.

”We’re back in the round of sixteen of the Champions League after ten years away, we drew the strongest team in Europe but we played them evenly. We were not inferior to Liverpool over the two matches,” he ended.

Inter went ahead through Lautaro Martinez’s stunning opener but failed to maintain their momentum, eventually being hurt by Alexis Sanchez’s unfortunate red card just before the final quarter-hour of the tie.
