Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri has delivered his verdict on the club’s absence from European football and his current squad. The Bianconeri coach spoke to the press in the build-up to Sunday’s curtain-raising Serie A fixture against Udinese.
It’s been a frustrating summer for Juventus. Since landing Timothy Weah, they’ve been unable to add to Allegri’s options. UEFA’s decision to ban them from European competition for a year added insult to injury. But there’s no time to moan as the new season gets underway this weekend.
Despite failing to find a replacement for outgoing captain Leonardo Bonucci and missing out on Romelu Lukaku’s signature, Allegri gives his current Juventus squad the benefit of the doubt. Allegri’s side fared well in pre-season, and the Italian believes in his men.
“I am very happy with the squad I have available, with how the group is working and how we have prepared, between Turin and the United States,” the Juventus tactician said in a pre-match conference, as relayed via the club’s website.
However, Allegri is disappointed to see Juventus out of continental action for the first time in 12 years. Financial indiscretions have finally caught up with the Turin giants. But despite the Italian manager’s frustration, it could be a blessing in disguise.
“We are very disappointed not to be able to play in the European cups, and the Champions League in particular. It’s never nice not participating, also because we had achieved our qualification on the field,” the Juventus coach finished.
