Kjaer on Return: “I Haven’t Felt Like This Since I Was 24”

Milan center-back Simon Kjaer appeared against Sassuolo in his first competitive match for the Rossoneri since last year following a knee injury he sustained against Genoa in December 2021. The Danish ace was on the pitch at the Mapei Stadium for 80 minutes before he asked to be subbed off.

Speaking to DAZN (via MilanNews) after the stalemate encounter, he revealed how it felt to return to playing ways, along with a reflection of Milan’s performance.

“270 days is a long time, a lot of work, a lot of sacrifices and I’m very happy to be back and to have given a hand. I’m fine, but let’s say that I haven’t had this feeling since I was 24. Managing yourself is more difficult, but I felt very good in all parts of the game. I asked to come out in order to not risk anything.”

He also took stock of the tie against the Neroverdi.

“Obviously we had to win. We did better than them but it’s a surprise that Sassuolo played like this, with everyone behind the ball and happy with a point. We lacked something in the final third and we have to work on that.”

Finally, Kjaer admitted that Milan have room for improvement.

“We worked hard to take advantage of the depth of players we have. We still need to read the game and manage it better. They defended very well. We must have the same hunger and the same attitude as last year.”

The Rossoneri face Inter next in the season’s first Derby della Madonnina.
