Lazio Playmaker Does Not Show up for Medicals, Fueling Speculations

Luis Alberto was not present among the first group of players that took the medicals yesterday. While there may have been a misunderstanding about his return date, the Lazio management is fuming. They expect him to head back to Italy in time to leave for Auronzo with the rest of the squad. Otherwise, there will be consequences, Il Messaggero reports.

Director Igli Tare talked with his entourage to smooth things over. President Claudio Lotito is considering fining him. It would not be the first time it happens. The midfielder was punished last season for publicly complaining about delays in paying the wages.

Lazio are hoping the situation will not linger. He is currently vacationing in Valencia with his family. The talks about his departure or malcontent on his part are premature, Alfredo Pedullà indicates. Last October, he extended his contract, pushing the expiration date to 2025. His salary increased to €4M including bonuses, although he did not meet few of those. The front office is unlikely to open a negotiation for a new deal, Radiosei informs.

Another team may be behind his behavior. The playmaker often voiced his desire to return to Spain. Villarreal, Atletico Madrid, should they sell Saul, Real Madrid and Sevilla could be options, the local outlets affirm. Instead, in Italy, Inter signed Hakan Calhanoglu, while Juventus are prioritizing Manuel Locatelli. Milan have an opening in the role, but they are probably averse to spending much for a 28-year-old. Lazio would be looking to get €50/60M if they decided to sell him, Lalaziosiamonoi affirms.
