Lazio Rekindle Interest in Former Inter Midfielder

Lazio have opened contacts with Matias Vecino, who is currently a free agent as his contract with Inter expired in June. The Biancocelesti are in need of another midfielder. However, their budget is scarce unless they sell one of their stars in the role, Alfredo Pedullà reports.

The Uruguayan international already played under Maurizio Sarri at Empoli. He has struggled to stay healthy in the last couple of seasons, plus he was at the bottom of the Nerazzurri’s depth chart at the position. He has featured in just 32 matches over the past two years, with just a handful of starts.

The boss would like to onboard Ivan Ilic from Verona regardless of the future of Luis Alberto and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. But he is pricey, while signing Vecino would give Lazio a cheap option that could feature in multiple positions.

At this stage, the Spaniard seems more likely to depart than the Serbian ace. As per Marca (via SportMediaset) Sevilla have tabled a couple of low offers, which were rejected. They would have more money to spend if they cashed in on Jules Koundé, who is in the crosshairs of major clubs. It would be a return for the playmaker, who started his career his Andalusia.

Our Take on Lazio Eyeing Vecino

The Biancocelesti already went the extra mile by revamping their defense and onboarding Marcos Antonio before any relevant sale. They are in a better spot in the midfield, where they need just backups rather than bonafide stars, so they can afford to take a flier on somebody.
