Legendary Milan tactician Arrigo Sacchi believes Inter have a great chance of retaining their Scudetto crown but feels they are not as far-fetched in the UEFA Champions League.
Inter have started their 2021/22 Serie A journey on a high note as one of the three unbeaten teams in the league so far, alongside Milan and Napoli. However, the same cannot be said of their form in Europe’s top competition, having lost and drawn their opening two matches.
Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Sacchi said: “In Italy the Inter formula works, in Europe a little less so. In Italy, it is based on individuals and on the defensive phase.”
The ex-Rossoneri protagonist, who won the 1987/88 Serie A title followed by a host of other accolades, continued to highlight the Nerazzurri’s chances in the Italian top-flight in 2021/22.
Since Inter has the best individual players and is well set up, with many men, to protect their own area, it is logical that they have an excellent chance in the league. But against Sassuolo, who spend less money, they sweated a lot,” he explained.
Inter sit in third place in the league with 17 points after 7 games, two behind Milan and four behind high-flying leaders Napoli who are the only team to possess a 100% win record.
