Lille forward Edon Zhegrova is flirting with Serie A giants Milan amid speculation linking him with a big-money switch to Italian football. During his recent interview with Gianluca Di Marzio, Zhergrova expressed his admiration for the Rossoneri after being heavily linked with a move to Juventus in the summer transfer window.
“I like Italian football, I always follow your big teams like Milan, and I also watch Juventus matches,” Zhegrova said via Calciomercato, fuelling rumors over a potential agreement with the seven-time European champions.
Asked point blank whether he’d accept a transfer to Serie A, he replied: “Why not? I really like Milan.“
Zhegrova’s statement has made waves in Italy, especially amid Rafael Leao’s uncertain future at Milan. The Portuguese winger delivered a vintage performance in Saturday’s action-packed 3-3 draw against Cagliari at the Unipol Domus.
However, his frosty relationship with Milan boss Paulo Fonseca has been among major talking points in recent weeks. Before starting yesterday’s game in Sardinia, he was outside Fonseca’s XI in three consecutive Serie A matches, casting doubt on his future at the club.
Meanwhile, Zhegrova has emerged as a potential candidate to replace Leao at Milan. Fonseca launched his career at Lille and is reportedly eager for a reunion at Stadio San Siro. But before he can start thinking about reinforcing his squad, the under-fire manager must weather the storm.
Yesterday’s draw at Cagliari ensured Milan would enter November’s international break outside the European qualification spots. Therefore, the pressure remains intense despite a 3-1 win at Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League.
