Lukaku Reveals Desire for Serie A Return, Apologizes to Inter Fans

In an exclusive interview with Sky Sport (via FCInterNews), ex-Inter marksman Romelu Lukaku has revealed the truth behind his €115m move to Chelsea from the Giuseppe Meazza, meanwhile expressing nostalgia and admitting that he is open to move back to Inter.

The Belgian striker spent two seasons in the Nerazzurri shirt before leaving for Stamford Bridge, where he has not replicated his true blistering form so far. He is currently suffering from the lack of consistency in Thomas Tuchel’s system, although he has banged 7 goals in 18 appearances.

“It’s been a lifetime since last summer. Everything has gone by. It shouldn’t have gone as it did, as I left Inter. As I communicated with the fans, it bothers me. It is not the right time now but even when I left it was not the right time,” he started.

Lukaku went on to express his desire to return to the Black & Blue shirt.

“Now it’s right to talk, I have Inter in my heart and I’ll go back to play there. I really hope so. I’m in love with Italy, this is the time to talk and let people know what really happened without speaking ill of people because I’m not like that.”

Back in August, when Lukaku was on the verge of leaving Milan for the Blues, the Curva Nord released a damning message to the Belgian, stating that he’s proven to be just like everyone else, accusing him of running behind money.

Responding to those past incidents, Lukaku said: “Message to the fans? First, I want to apologize to the Inter fans. The way I left, had to be another way. I had to talk to you fans first because the things you did for me, for mine family, for my mother, for my son, these are things that remain for me forever. I hope from the bottom of my heart to return to Inter, not at the end of my career, but at a level that is still good to hope to win more.”

He appeared 95 times for the Nerazzurri, scoring 64 goals in the process and leading the club to their first Scudetto in over a decade, in 2020/21.
