Lukaku Set to Miss More Fixtures with Thigh Injury

After missing the past two games, including the Derby with Milan, Romelu Lukaku will have to sit out a few more to recover from a thigh injury. After he got hurt in practice, the Nerazzurri had announced he would be re-evaluated in a week. He will undergo further exams in Belgium shortly, where he will spend the next three or four days, SportMediaset reports.

The striker will check in with the doctors of his national team to decide the rehab route. It’s a long shot he will be able to return before the first international break. Though, some within the club are hopeful he will come back for the Udinese game on September 18th.

Lukaku is set to skip at least the upcoming fixtures against Bayern Munich, Torino, and Viktoria Plzen with his thigh injury. More precisely, he’s nursing a flexor muscle pull. He had tallied one goal and one assist in three appearances before the problem.

The returning star was shelved for a while due to an ankle sprain during the underwhelming 2020/2021 season at Chelsea. He has generally been remarkably durable in his previous stint in Milan. Coach Simone Inzaghi has turned to Edin Dzeko and Joaquin Correa in recent tilts, and both have hit the net once.

Our Take on the Lukaku Injury

The situation is a little suspicious, as there would be no need for a trip abroad for a standard issue, but probably Belgium is just being extra careful ahead of the World Cup. More than anything, Inter have been lacking leadership and the intimidation factor in the early going. So the 29-year-old leaves a big hole behind, even though the other strikers have been fine.
