Manchester United Set Sights on Inter Goalie Onana

André Onana has found another deep-pocketed Premier League suitor, as Manchester United are tracking him since they might lose David De Gea this summer. The contract of the Spaniard expires in June. The parties are struggling to come to terms on an extension.

According to SportMediaset, the Nerazzurri will request a lofty sum but are ready to sell for the right offer. They have lined up Guglielmo Vicario as a replacement. The Cameroonian would reunite with his former Ajax coach Erik Ten Hag if the deal went through. The two reportedly already talked over the phone.

Onana is on the Manchester United shortlist for the role along with Porto’s Diogo Costa and Anderlecht’s Bart Verburggen. He’s also on Chelsea’s radar. However, despite meeting with the Serie A side last week, the Blues didn’t accelerate their pursuit.

Empoli president Guglielmo Vicario alluded to La Beneamata’s interest in Vicario in an interview with Lady Radio (via TuttoSport).

“A big team called me Tuesday morning and told me that they were keen on him because they might sell their goalie to a foreign team. Friendship matters to me. This club has been after him for a few months.”

Our Take on Onana, Inter, and Manchester United

Just as it looked like the Chelsea threat was losing steam, a new credible one emerges. Young and dependable shot-stoppers come at a premium since there are only a handful of them. The sides would have to make the numbers work, but the succession plan already being in place is a significant hint about where things are headed.
