Mauro Pumps the Brakes: “Dybala Not Comparable with Platini”

Paulo Dybala surpassed Michel Platini in the list of the all-time scorers for Juventus. However, he still has ways to go to be in the same echelon as Le Roi according to his former teammate and pundit Massimo Mauro. “It is impossible to compare to them. The celebration was perfect, but the Frenchman is just much more accomplished.”

The ex-midfielder spoke to La Gazzetta dello Sport: “Platini is a top-ten player in the history of football. He always took matters into his own hands in difficult situations. He wanted the ball all the time, even when defenders were guarding him. A true leader that improved the team.”

“I do not want to diminish Dybala, who is very good. But Platini proved to be the best in a World Cup semi-final and the Champions League final. He won three Ballons d’Or and was the top Serie A scorers multiple times. He is in the same conversation as Diego Armando Maradona, Zico, and Johan Cruyff. He was the best no.10 in the history of Juventus.”

“Dybala will turn 28 in a few days. Michel had already won his first Ballon d’Or at this point. Paulo played in stronger sides than the current one. He reached the pinnacle, but he was never the top star. It is time for him to become that. His technical skills are impressive. However, in order to be on the same level as some legends, he has to be the most important player in the most pivotal matches. He has not proven that so far.”
