Milan Compile Three-Man Shortlist to Address Defensive Crisis

Following a faltered attempt to lure Alessandro Buongiorno away from Torino, Milan have switched their attention toward the Premier League to reinforce their backline. According to Sky, Clement Lenglet, Jakub Kiwior, and Trevoh Chalobah are on the Rossoneri‘s shortlist.
Milan recalled Matteo Gabbia from an unimpressive loan spell at Villarreal earlier this month to address a defensive emergency. However, the Italian’s return is only part of the solution. Stefano Pioli would ideally sign one more center-back in January.
Lenglet long seemed like the most attainable target. The Barcelona loanee had a rough start to his loan spell at Aston Villa. But he has recently established himself as a first-team regular under Unai Emery, making the starting XI across the last four matches.
Kiwior is a more likely alternative for Milan. Familiar with Serie A after making a name for himself at Spezia, the Poland international has stuttered at Arsenal. He’s Mikel Arteta’s last option at the back and could be allowed to return to Italy on a temporary basis.
Chelsea’s Chalobah is another genuine possibility for Milan. The clubs brokered two deals over the summer, with Christian Pulisic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek swapping Stamford Bridge for San Siro.
Both players have excelled thus far, as have Olivier Giroud and Fikayo Tomori, the other two who have also followed this path. Since it’s a proven recipe, Milan could intensify their pursuit of the Englishman.
Mauricio Pochettino won’t stand in Chalobah’s way, increasing the likelihood of his move to Milan.
