Milan and Spezia have reportedly opened talks for the versatile Poland international Jakub Kiwior less than a month since the conclusion of the summer transfer window. According to Calciomercato, the Rossoneri have joined several Serie A clubs in the race for the 22-year-old.
It’s been an inspiring start to the season for Kiwior. Able to cover a multitude of roles at the back and deep in the midfield, the Polish youngster has yet to miss a single minute of top-flight action this season. Currently away on international duty with Poland, he has generated plenty of interest from Italy and abroad.
West Ham United approached Spezia to discuss Kiwior’s future in the summer. However, the player turned down the prospect of moving to the Premier League as he’s aiming to stay in Serie A. Milan could listen to his prayers and offer him a chance to ply his trade at a more competitive level.
Per various claims in Italy, Milan obtained the right to refusal for the 22-year-old when Mattia Caldara joined Spezia on loan earlier in the summer. But aware of the jewel they possess in their ranks, the Italian minnows have pinned a sizeable €18m price tag on their prized asset’s shoulders. That could put the Rossoneri off, given their financial trouble.
Yet head coach Stefano Pioli is desperate to bolster his defensive options following his side’s leaky start to the season. Despite landing Malick Thiaw late in the summer, the German has yet to register his first appearance for Milan. The reigning Serie A champions are looking for a more sustainable option, with Kiwior emerging as a viable target.
There’s still plenty of time before the January transfer window, but Milan would like to close the deal with Spezia as soon as possible.
