Mohamed Salah Crowns ‘Unbelievable’ Buffon as the Best He Has Faced

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has revealed the best goalkeepers he has ever faced in his career. The Egyptian talisman has faced some of the world’s best players in his glittering career at Anfield but insists there are four shot-stoppers above the rest in his humble opinion. However, one of them according to him stands head and heels above the rest.

The ex-Roma and Fiorentina striker named Gianluigi Buffon as the cream of the crop, insisting that he is in a league of his own, in an exclusive Q&A session with Sky Sports. Salah says Buffon is an ‘unbelievable’ player – a statement that cannot be refuted given the fact that the 2006 World Cup winner is going strong at Parma despite him being 44.

When quizzed about the best keeper he has ever faced, he said: “I can’t decide on one so I’m going to give you four. Casillas, Buffon, Alisson, Neuer. I’m sure there are plenty of other great goalkeepers but I am forgetting at the moment. It’s hard to choose which one.”

He then went on to heap praise on Buffon’s career accolades.

“When I played against Buffon in Italy, he was unbelievable. The feeling when you are up against him, it’s amazing. The career he had winning everything in football, it’s unbelievable,” he said.

Salah was quick to point out how the fans’ receptions in England and Italy vary, especially if the opposition team has legendary ballers in it.

He commented: “When I was playing in Rome, fans applauded Totti home and away. That only happened with Totti, De Rossi, Buffon and Del Piero. I don’t think that happens in England, the fan is always against the opposition player, In Italy wherever Buffon goes, he gets the respect he deserves.”

Salah spent three season in Serie A, appearing first for Fiorentina on loan from Chelsea, before jumping south to the capital city with Rome, where he spent the next two seasons.

The Egyptian has since then etched himself as one of the best players in the world with consistent performances in the red of Liverpool, registering 153 goals in 243 appearances for the Anfield side.
