Mourinho Post Slavia Loss: “We Deserve Weight of the Defeat”

Roma slumped to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Slavia Prague at the Fortuna Arena, and José Mourinho was nothing less than furious after the game. The Roma frontline was effectively shut out, as Slavia made the most of their chances in the second half to leap above the Giallorossi in Group G on goal difference.

Mourinho spoke to Sky Sport (via VoceGiallorossa) after the game and couldn’t help but criticize his own team.

“I don’t want to talk much. The decision not to let the players speak to the press is mine. Nobody has to talk because there’s not much more to say than what I say. It’s a fair result, deserved for them in a positive sense and well deserved for us in a negative sense. I didn’t like anything. I’ve already spoken to the players in the dressing room, which is something I usually don’t like to do because I have too much adrenaline. Seeing the game upstairs makes me arrive to the locker room with more peace of mind. I did it, and what I said stays between us. I want to be simply honest and fair to these Slavia boys who deserved it 100%.”

The Special One revealed he expected such difficulties but is nonetheless ready to face Lazio in the upcoming Derby della Capitale.

“These are completely isolated things. I always like to isolate things. When you have players who are in a difficult situation, you try to think about the next game, like we did with Paulo Dybala and Bryan Cristante, but that doesn’t mean that today’s match wasn’t important. We didn’t do badly: we did horribly. I think we deserve the weight of the defeat.”

Mourinho said no one can match the emotions he carries for the Romanista more than himself, blaming certain individuals for the lack of professionalism.

“It is not possible to experience the city of Rome more than me, even if you were born in Trigoria. My professionalism is of a dimension that it is impossible for a local person to experience the club more than me. Besides the fact that Rome is special to me, considering the way I work, it’s impossible for them to feel the Derby more than me. What is possible is that some of them do not have the same level of professionalism that I have. Even if we won the Derby, I won’t forget this defeat today. I lost it in a horrible way. It’s my fault.”
