Napoli Lose Star Victor Osimhen to Major Facial Injuries

Victor Osimhen suffered multiple compound orbital and cheekbone fractures in the Inter clash. The striker collided with Milan Skriniar in the air and subbed off early in the second half. The medical staff immediately took him to a local hospital to evaluate him for a potential concussion. The tests came back clean on that front.

He spent the night at the clinic and will undergo surgery in the next few days, Napoli announced. According to Sky Sport, the striker will miss approximately a month. A few titanic plates will be inserted to repair the damage. Moreover, he will be fitted with a special mask to try to speed up the recovery. His timetable will be more precise after the operation.

Osimhen has scored 5 goals in 11 Serie A matches so far and 4 in 3 Europa League appearances. Napoli will have to lean on Dries Mertens and Andrea Petagna in the upcoming fixtures. The Belgian forward hit the net against Inter, finding his first domestic goal of the season. The Partenopei will face Lazio, Sassuolo, Atalanta, Empoli, Milan and Spezia before the winter break.

Osimhen will likely be ready for the start of the African Cup of Nations. Should he participate, Napoli would have to cope without him till February. The Nigerian international spent significant time on the mend last season as well. He missed two months during the autumn due to a major shoulder injury, while a challenging bout with COVID knocked him out for six matches later on in January.
