Orsolini Finding His Way Through Bologna History Books

Riccardo Orsolini has eyed game time under Luciano Spalletti in the Azzurri colours after his most recent magnificent hattrick display trounced Empoli 3-0 at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara. The winger is enroute to establishing himself in the Rossoblù history books, having broken a couple of records already, and with a lot more to track down.

The Bologna number seven unleashed the best version of himself against the Tuscan outfit last matchday, dealing a first blow with an astounding piece of solo effort as he ended Bologna’s three-match goal drought with just three touches. He then netted successive second-half strikes to send Empoli back home empty-handed. All the while, Orsolini became the first player since Giuseppe Signori between 1998 and 2004 to find the back of the net in six successive seasons.

His first Serie A hattrick was also the first by a Bologna player in two years. Rodrigo Palacio smashed three against Fiorentina back in 2021, before which the only Italian who scored three for the Rossoblù was Marco Di Vaio back in 2009.

Orsolini is currently on 49 goals for Bologna in 191 appearances, needing just two to overtake Hungarian Istvan Mike and enter the 50-goal club. The 26-year-old is however way off the 100-goal mark, with 15 players ahead of him in the goalscoring list.

Bologna legend Angelo Schiavio is the club’s all-time top goalscorer with 252 goals in 361 appearances.
