Pedro Joins Highly Selected Group of Players with Derby Goals

With yesterday’s goal, Pedro has become the third player to score with both Rome-based clubs in the Derby della Capitale. The Spaniard doubled the Lazio lead with a pinpoint shot. The only other two that had managed in the past were Arne Selmonsson in the ‘50s and Aleksander Kolarov.

Both had done it in the opposite order, first hitting the net first with Lazio and then with Roma. The Swedish striker, like Pedro, had transferred directly from one team to the other. Instead, the fullback spent some time abroad before returning to the Italian Capital.

Pedro had previously found the target on May 15th’s Derby. Roma decided to move on from him after an up-and-down season this summer, also due to his salary. Lazio pounced on the opportunity of reuniting him with Maurizio Sarri for cheap. The last cross-town transfer between the Giallorossi and the Biancocelesti had gone down in 1985 when Astutillo Malgioglio switched sides.

Pedro celebrated the goal, as he had announced. He told DAZN: “It happened, and I am happy because I am very comfortable at Lazio. The fans welcomed me in the best possible way, and so did my new teammates. I am happy to play for Sarri again, as I like his ideas a lot. This is one of the great moments in my career. And this is an important game for the city, as it means a lot. I have played in a few derbies at Chelsea and Barcelona, but this is one of the best in the world.”
