Jose Mourinho has changed Roma’s face with the revered Scudetto title in sight. However, the capital club are not yet done with their proceedings in the transfer market as the club are looking to offload at least one more player in Javier Pastore, after the departure of Alessandro Florenzi to Milan.
The 32-year-old Argentine attacking midfielder has been plagued with injuries for the past season or two and is out of Roma’s plans for the 2021/22 season. He joined Roma in 2018 and has since only made 37 appearances – a disappointing statistic owing to the €25m paid for him by the Giallorossi to Paris Saint-Germain.
Roma sporting director Tiago Pinto recently held talks with the player’s agent, Marcelo Simonian, made it clear that the club are determind to write off the player’s €4.5m in net annual wages – his contract expires in June 2023.
He has a transfermarkt value of €1.5m but there no suitors yet in line for him.
It is reported that the player’s absence from the Roma squad before their pre-season friendly against Raja Casablanca some time ago triggered the club management to accelerate talks regarding his departure. According to Pastore’s social media posts, he was in Paris watching his former team PSG play their season opener – when he was expected to show up at the Stadio Olimpico.
The relationship between the two parties seem to have deteriorated beyond repair. The Giallorossi would be obliged to pay-out the Argentine and the amount in question is certainly not a small one.
