Roma Mainstay Facing Uncertain Future Despite Major Role

Bryan Cristante is one of the Roma players who logged the most minutes so far this season. He has been the linchpin of the midfield and generally helps the defense a lot thanks to his skill-set. However, he is not a lock to stay at the club next summer.

According to Goal.com, the Giallorossi will seriously take into consideration the offers for him. The player is unhappy with his contractual situation. He was expecting a new deal considering his growing role. However, the front office decided to delay every negotiation with their current contributors.

Cristante originally joined Roma from Atalanta in a €22M move in 2019. He has been a regular also Eusebio Di Francesco, Claudio Ranieri and Paulo Fonseca. He displayed his versatility in recent years, as he often featured as a center-back. Mourinho has preferred using him as a pivot. He has missed just two games in the 2021-2022 campaign, one because of COVID-19 and the other due to a suspension. He has accumulated 161 appearances since transferring to the Italian Capital.

Roma have been looking to add a midfield maestro since the arrival of the Special One, and Cristante could be the odd man out if they found one. Granit Xhaka remains their top objective for the role, Corriere dello Sport informs. The Portuguese gaffer is keen on keeping Henrikh Mkhitaryan despite his expiring contract. However, the Armenian star demanded a two-year deal. Moreover, he wishes to confirm his significant wages to re-up, Corriere della Sera informs.
