Sassuolo Midfielder No Longer Hell-Bent on Joining Roma

Davide Frattesi pushed to move to his boyhood club Roma last summer, but the transfer didn’t materialize. The Giallorossi tried again in January, but the deal quickly lost steam. He’s now open to other destinations, as he made clear in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I could have joined last summer. However, it didn’t happen for a couple of millions. I never asked why they didn’t truly want me. It was better for me not to scrutinize it. I was disappointed at the time, but I no longer think about it. I don’t know where I’ll go. Though, I have a different approach concerning my future.”

“First off, the project of the club will be one of the main criteria. I’m very ambitious. Then the tactical aspect. I’d rather play as a box-to-box than in a two-man midfield. I’m keeping tabs on Gianluca Scamacca and Giacomo Raspadori and realized that you need time and the right mindset to get integrated into a new side.”

Whether at Roma or another team, Frattesi is wary he’ll face more expectations at his next stop.

“I don’t like to call it pressure, as other people deal with that, and I prefer to definite it as a  challenge. I don’t feel it when I play at San Siro or the Stadio Olimpico as an opponent and the fans boo me. It’s nice in my opinion, and I thrive in those situations.”

Frattesi and Sassuolo will face Roma Sunday.

“I don’t think I will celebrate if I score. Maybe my friends at the arena will. However, I told them that, if they do, they aren’t true supporters.”
