Gianluca Scamacca has been productive when healthy since transferring to Atalanta. He detailed why he picked La Dea and more after the victory over Sturm Graz. He spoke to Sky (via OneFootball).
“It was an intense and difficult game. They were aggressive and clogged up the spaces well. It was important to advance, and we did it. The desire to help the team always comes first, then, if I can also score meaningful goals continentally, even better.”
Scamacca looked back at the summer and 2022/2023.
“Atalanta were the first team to prove to me that they strongly wanted me. I talked with the coach, the director, and the president, and they convinced me right away. I have to improve a lot of things and work daily to do it. Last season was a bit weird, also because of the injury, and I was a little unlucky.”
Scamacca is eager to have a big role with the Azzurri.
“I think things happen when they need to happen. If I wasn’t called up sooner, it means that I wasn’t ready enough. Luciano Spalletti tells me to move around, believe in myself, and never give up.”
Atalanta won a duel with Inter to sign Scamacca from West Ham last summer. Giuseppe Marotta dispelled the narrative in recent days (via Calciomercato).
“We inquired about many options, including him. We pulled out of the race because there no longer were the right conditions. It’s not true that he turned us down. We moved on to different targets.”
