Ex-Nerazzurri hero Wesley Sneijder believes his former side can do the damage once again at the Camp Nou following the Italians’ 1-0 win over the Spaniards last UEFA Champions League matchday, thanks to Hakan Calhanoglu’s goal. There is an air of excitement around the upcoming encounter following the high-intensity clash that took place last week at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.
The Dutch legend spoke to the microphones of La Gazzetta dello Sport (via FCInterNews), praising the Nerazzurri for playing an ‘intelligent’ game last time around.
“A very intelligent game. Inter defended with great attention, but never put the bus in front of the goal. On the contrary, they had several chances to restart only for details or small mistakes that did not materialize in goals.”
He feels Inter are fearless in the face of any team
“A team like Inter goes to any stadium without fear, regardless of the atmosphere around them. I think after the first leg victory, the players have taken off a lot of anxiety and can play with more freedom.”
Despite Inter getting starting the season on a poor note, Sneijder thinks their difficulties are understandable given the many tactical changes and constant injuries, backing Simone Inzaghi to get the team back together going forward.
“You can see that the players love him and then last year the team played very well. It can’t be a coincidence.”
Inter’s last away victory against a Spanish side in the UCL was back in October 2004, and despite being winless in all five matches played at the Camp Nou, they will muster hope of a consecutive victories against the hosts for the first time ever.
