Spalletti Previews Crunch Inter Clash, Hopes to Maintain Momentum

Inter face league leaders Napoli in a crunch clash at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza tomorrow, as coach Luciano Spalletti prepares to keep his side’s unbeaten momentum going into the second half of the season.

The ex-Nerazzurri coach revealed his thoughts in the pre-match press conference (via Tuttomercatoweb).

“During this period of break we did what we had to, working in depth on all the qualities needed, evaluating the players individually between those returning from the World Cup and those who had been on vacation. From what we have seen, the responses have been good, like I’ve already said, for us it’s not a restart because our heads are where we left off. We started this beautiful journey a year and a half ago and there are no stops, there are no stations, we will stop only when we know how it will end.”

When asked if he feels the same grit and commitment as the previous months, Spalletti didn’t hesitate to answer.

“I want to be under maximum pressure. I always am when I work and I’m happy like this, when you’re at your maximum in terms of desire, preparation, attention, I expect a correct answer to repay the expectations of the fans, of our people.”

He also had words of praise for Stanislav Lobotka and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

“They applied themselves correctly. A good match came out against Juve Stabia, both Kvara and Lobo performed at a very good level for the time I had them, it’s easy with their quality. Kvara has unpredictability, normal things make them exceptional, for us it is a great added value. These are the players who determine the very important opportunity of the match from nothing, without needing schemes and themes, they overcome their opponents and determine the result.”

Napoli have dropped points just once on the road this campaign (W6, D1). A positive result at Inter is a must if Spalletti’s side want to extend their lead at the top of the table and win a first Scudetto since 1989/90.
