Spezia Confirm Loan Deal for Atalanta Midfielder

Atalanta have confirmed the departure of Ukrainian midfielder Viktor Kovalenko from the club, on a season-long loan deal to Spezia – after having signed with the club in only February 2021. The versatile 25-year-old midfielder, who can function as both a central midfielder and an attacking midfielder has left the club in search of regular playing time. He appeared just once in 2020/21 for Atalanta and his contract expires in June 2025.

The Shakhtar Donetsk youth product left Ukraine with a few months remaining on his Shakhtar contract to sign with the Bergamo club.

The Aquilotti have lured him until June 2022 on loan, with the option to make his transfer permanent next season. Having survived the top flight in 2020/21 after gaining promotion for the first time in their 114 year history, Spezia have been renewed with a sense of hope and motivation with the arrival of new talents and manager Thiago Motta.

The club are still on the lookout for someone who can support the forward line as a center-forward – with two talents already on their scouting list. Additionally, former Chievo Verona striker Manuel De Luca, who was recently released by the club, has also been identified as a target by Spezia director Pecini.
