Torino Forced to Forfeit Lazio Match Over Stubborn League Decision

Despite the fact that Torino players are not allowed to leave isolation until tomorrow, the League has opted not to postponed today’s game versus Lazio. The Granata have abided by the orders of the local health officials and have not travelled to Rome, therefore they will forfeit the match, hoping to have it rescheduled through successful appeals later on, like Napoli did versus Juventus.

Torino have not had new cases since Friday and will be permitted to resume practicing Wednesday, eyeing a return on the pitch Sunday against Crotone. Serie A executives, who were reportedly pressured by teams that played in similar situations earlier in the season, decided to apply the protocol strictly since the Granata were already granted one postponement.

Moving the match to Wednesday, when the quarantine would have been over, was considered but ultimately rejected by Lazio, which wanted to have enough time to prepare for Saturday’s clash with Juventus. The fact that the two presidents Claudio Lotito and Urbano Cairo are archrivals and engaged in a legal battle concerning the first bout, with Biancocelesti being accused of fielding a positive player, worked against a gentlemen agreement. The Granata might have to wait until the third degree of justice for a positive outcome. April 7th has been mentioned as a possible date, Sky Sport reported.

Fifteen people within the club were found to have contracted Coronavirus since February 19th, with eight players going through the protocol as things stand: Andrea Belotti, Karol Linetty, Daniele Baselli, Wilfried Singo, Bremer, Nicola Murru, Alessandro Buongiorno and Nicholas Nkoulou.
