Tottenham Line Up January Swoop for Juventus Misfit

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly readying an approach for Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie amid the player’s uncertain future in Turin. According to Tutto Juve, Spurs are ready to dash out around €25m to persuade the Italians to sanction the deal in the upcoming transfer window.

McKennie joined Juventus from Schalke initially on a season-long loan in summer 2020. Impressed by his inaugural Serie A season, the Bianconeri turned the USA international’s move permanent the following summer for a reported fee of €18.5m.

Despite putting pen to paper on a four-year contract only last year, the 23-year-old could be on his way out already in January. McKennie has been in and out of Massimiliano Allegri’s squad this season. He has so far managed just ten Serie A starts this term, having fallen behind Adrien Rabiot and Rodrigo Bentancur in the pecking order.

Yet, the USMNT star has recently recovered Allegri’s trust, developing from an outcast early in the season into a solid backup option of late. Unfortunately, it may not be enough to extend his career at Juventus as the Turin heavyweights look to move all fringe players on to raise funds for new signings.

McKennie is said to be one of the players destined to be sold in the upcoming transfer window. Tottenham seem ready to pounce for the Bianconeri misfit, with Antonio Conte looking to put his own stamp on the squad he inherited from Nuno Espirito Santo midway through the first half of the Premier League season.

Juventus are willing to cash in on McKennie, but it remains uncertain whether a €25m bid would be enough to tempt them into selling. Dejan Kulusevski is another out-of-favor Bianconeri star linked with a switch to the Premier League soon. Arsenal are reportedly keen on landing the Swede.
