Inter Quickly Closing In on Barella Contract Extension

While other extensions have taken center stage in recent weeks, Inter have been quietly working on coming to terms with Nicolò Barella, making strides. He’s already under contract till 2026, but the club wants to prolong it. The parties could put pen to paper in early 2024 or in the spring, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs.

The midfielder is happy at the club, and the brass is on the same page. He and the management routinely received offers but never truly considered them. They plan to stick together long-term.

Inter recently met with Alessandro Beltrami, the agent of Barella. There’ll be a second summit soon. The topic isn’t necessarily urgent, but the front office doesn’t want to let it linger.

The Italy staple currently makes €5M net plus about €1M add-ons. The Nerazzurri hierarchy wishes to add two years to his deal. While they haven’t gone into detail about the numbers yet, he’ll most likely earn more than €6M once everything is sealed. Other than the technical aspects, longer contracts help sides amortizing the costs.

Our Take on Inter and Barella

It’s a no-brainer and, while they have frequently cashed in on their stars, they have accompanied that strategy by making a few cornerstones untouchable, which helped them navigate the various iterations of their squad. The transitions would have been a lot rougher without some true reference points.
