Allegri Downplays Importance of Clash with Napoli

Massimiliano Allegri provided an update on their many injured players and assessed the meaning of the Napoli encounter in the pre-game presser (via TuttoSport).

“The squad is in good shape, as we were able to practice for three days. We are good conditions. Some returns should be imminent, probably not for the Coppa Italia game versus Monza, but maybe against Atalanta. Juan Cuadrado should resume training regularly Tuesday.”

The coach was quizzed about Federico Chiesa.

“If I was certain he’d make the difference as a sub, that’s how I’d use him. I’ll decide the lineup after the final practice today.”

“It’s pointless to dwell on the points we didn’t get versus Salernitana. We look ahead. The results have been good, but it will be a different game tomorrow. There’s a rule in football: what you do no longer matters the day after. We have to lay low and keep growing.”

Allegri explained why Juventus fare better in second halves and put pressure on Napoli.

“It’s because we are fine physically. It’ll be surely be a different bout tomorrow. Matches never end at the San Paolo. We haven’t prepared anything specifically. It’ll be a very nice evening of football. It won’t be a decisive game, but it’ll be very important for them. I think Luciano Spalletti is the best coach and teacher, and he has proven that. I esteem him, but he’s so funny that sometimes we quarrel. I’m not really a manager, I do this job by accident.”

“It’ll be the last fixture with Andrea Agnelli as the president. I personally thank him for giving me the opportunity to coach Juventus. The results speak for him in my opinion.”
