Atalanta Striker Muriel Top Priority to Replace Roma Outcast Zaniolo

With Nicolo Zaniolo all but set to leave Roma at the end of the season after a heavily fractured relationship with the club and supporters, the management is foreseeing potential replacements to arrive in the place of the 23-year-old.

Atalanta striker Luis Muriel was approached by Roma in the final hours of the recently concluded transfer window, but failure to sell Zaniolo proved costly for the Giallorossi, blocking the arrival of the Colombian in the Italian capital.

According to Calciomercato (via VoceGiallorossa), Jose Mourinho will prompt sporting director Tiago Pinto again to buy Muriel in the summer. Muriel will be a free agent come summer, given his contract expires at the end of the season. Atalanta however have the option to automatically renew the forward’s contract until 2024.

If the Bergamo outfit choose not to activate the additional one-year clause, Roma are well in line to sign Muriel on a free transfer.
