Bernardeschi Using Barcelona Links in Talks with Juventus

Federico Bernardeschi has had a proper renaissance in the last few matches and is in the midst of his best stretch since joining Juventus. His role got significantly bigger with both Paulo Dybala and Federico Chiesa on the shelf. He has answered the bell with one goal and three assists in the last five starts. He had not scored in a Serie A game in over 500 days. His strong performances could affect the negotiation for a new contract.

The deal of the attacker is up in June, like Paulo Dybala and Juan Cuadrado’s ones. The 27-year-old changed his agent in the middle of the talks, causing them to start over. There does not appear to be much rush to come terms from either side, Alfredo Pedullà reports.

Bernardeschi sidestepped the question recently: “We are focusing on these next few months. We need to come back in the standings.” His priority is to stay with the Bianconeri, but he would have to accept a pay cut for it to happen. He is currently making €4M, while the front office would like to lower his salary to €2.5/3M per year. They are looking to keep the payroll in check. Manuel Locatelli, the crown jewel of last summer’s window, earns about that sum.

The talks between the new Bernardeschi camp and Juventus have been preliminary so far. The recent ties to Barcelona are likely just a stratagem to drive up his requests. Despite the situation, there probably will not be new developments until after the January session.
