De Rossi Talks Taking Roma Job, Formations, and More

Daniele De Rossi held his introductory presser and pre-game one, as Roma will take on Verona on Saturday (via Corriere dello Sport).

“Francesco Totti wished me luck and conveyed his happiness and surprise, which were the same as mine. I’d be happy if we finished in the top four. I’m not stupid, and I know I wasn’t chosen for my results with SPAL. The decision was due to a few factors, including leadership. It’s a great chance for me, even though I didn’t dream it would happen this way, replacing one of the winningest coaches.”

De Rossi didn’t hesitate when Roma contacted him.

“You can’t refuse this team. It’s the same thing that happened to Andrea Pirlo a few years ago. There are men who turn down opportunities and others who dive in. It’s not just a matter of nostalgia. The only possible reason for rejecting would have been a mediocre squad, but I believe it’s strong.”

De Rossi dished on his Roma contract and tactical preferences.

“The owners have been very clear about it and my permanence. I want to be treated as a coach and not a club legend. I will fight until death to stay here and want to gain my confirmation in a clean way. They like that in my opinion.”

“I fell in love with this job with Luciano Spalletti and Luis Enrique, who use a four-man defense. However, this team has been built to play with a three-man one. Maybe we’ll alternate.”
